WhatsApp Messaging Policy
How ClickMaker Connect applies WhatsApp consent, template, service-window and quality requirements for global messaging.
Legal review required
This is a plain-language draft for a global customer base, not legal advice. It should be reviewed by qualified counsel in the markets where ClickMaker Connect is sold before it is relied on in a dispute.
Summary
- Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy governs all WhatsApp messaging. This page explains how the platform applies it operationally.
- Opt-in, template approval and quality are enforced by Meta; our platform helps you comply but cannot override Meta.
- Meta per-message charges are separate from ClickMaker platform fees and are shown on the pricing page.
1. Meta's role
WhatsApp and the WhatsApp Business Platform are operated by Meta. Meta decides whether a business, number or template is eligible, approves templates, sets messaging limits, monitors quality and bills per-message charges. ClickMaker does not control these decisions.
This page is an operational summary, not a replacement for Meta's current policies. Where this page conflicts with Meta's terms, Meta's terms control. Different countries may have additional local messaging, consent and content rules.
2. Opt-in and opt-out
You must obtain consent before sending marketing or promotional messages. Consent should identify your business, explain that the customer will receive WhatsApp messages, and cover the categories you intend to send. Record the source, timestamp and scope of consent.
ClickMaker stores opt-in status, timestamp and source on contact records. Suppression is applied before a campaign audience is dispatched. An opt-out must be honoured even if it arrives through a channel other than WhatsApp.
3. Template categories
- Marketing: promotions, offers, announcements and re-engagement. Requires marketing opt-in and is not delivered to US numbers on the WhatsApp Business Platform.
- Utility: transactional updates tied to an existing transaction or request, such as order or appointment updates.
- Authentication: one-time codes and verification flows. Additional Meta requirements may apply.
- Category is proposed by the business but decided by Meta. Misclassification can lead to rejection or quality penalties.
4. Customer service window
A free-form reply is permitted only within 24 hours of the customer's last inbound message. Outside that window, you must use an approved template. The platform validates the window before dispatching a free-form message and returns a clear error when it is closed.
5. Templates, quality and limits
- Templates require Meta review. Submission is not approval.
- Rejected templates include a reason where Meta provides one; fix the issue and resubmit.
- Quality rating, messaging limits and account status are surfaced from Meta and may change based on recipient feedback.
- Meta assigns messaging limits based on business and number quality. The platform displays the current limit when available but cannot increase it.
- Do not use templates to evade opt-out or send prohibited content.
6. Charges
Meta charges per delivered message under its current rate card. Rates depend on the recipient country and message category. Those charges are separate from ClickMaker platform fees and are not included in the plan's platform subscription.
The pricing page publishes a dated summary of Meta's USD list rates for the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and India. Always confirm the current rate card in Meta's official documentation before a large campaign.
